Guillaume To’osavili Martel

NZIS Level 4 Personal Trainer
NZIS Level 5 Advanced Health & Fitness Coach

Talofa Lava! My name is Guillaume To’osavili Martel.

For most of my young adult life, I was an active individual — committed to a variety of sports that took me across New Zealand and the world.

Rugby, in particular, was my avenue for testing limits, building resilience, and striving past barriers alongside a team. It shaped much of who I am today, and remains a part of me I still hold dear.

When I later shifted into the creative world, pursuing a career in Motion Design for three years, I unknowingly drifted away from those habits of training and movement. I allowed an idle lifestyle to settle in, believing my physical health would remain intact simply because it had always been there — but it didn’t.

Chasing only extrinsic goals — perception, success, attempts to win — dulled my deeper willingness to simply move for the sake of my own well-being. Unless I was moving for a sport, what was the point?

Neglecting that relationship with movement took a heavy toll, and it took years to truly find my way back.

Through that journey, I rediscovered my passion for health and fitness. Strength training, CrossFit, and other forms of movement reignited something within me — the realisation that true health isn’t just about chasing a finish line. It’s about building a relationship between mind, body, and spirit that carries us forward into our later years.

I deepened this passion by studying Personalised Training at the New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS), gaining a deeper understanding of the connection between physical movement and true well-being.

Now, my mission is simple:

To help others rediscover the joy of movement, and to create a positive, welcoming space where you can become better than you were yesterday.

This is the heart behind Mātū Motion

Derived from the Sāmoan word for North — or maturation — Mātū symbolises clarity, purpose, and direction. Like the North Star, it’s about finding your way, even amidst distractions.

With Mātū, I want to bring that symbol into your life — through the simple but powerful act of moving forward.

Movement has always been my motto. Taking that first step into something new. Jumping in even when you’re afraid. Starting, even when you’re unsure.

Every stepping stone I’ve reached has come from moving forward — and it’s the only way we truly discover what’s possible within ourselves.

At Mātū Motion, we believe it only takes one step. One forward step to make a change — to a stronger, healthier, more intentional you.

Training shouldn’t feel like a chore. It should feel like a celebration — of health, longevity, and life itself.

And I’m here to walk that journey with you.
